Top Ten Things to Know: When You’re Expecting or a New Mommy –PART I
Pregnancy and the first ten months of motherhood have been
the most thrilling times of my life so far!!!
Although there is so much that I wish I knew during my three trimesters
that I have come to realize now, I am not in any hurry to do it again-only
because I want to savor every moment with my little Samantha!
In the last year, I have had so many friends and family
members who became first time mothers, have added a sibling, or are expecting. All of the above have inspired me to create
this blog space.
Here’s my effort to get back into writing and advise about a
few things. If you like what you see,
please leave a comment. Also…if you
would like me to feature something special on ‘mommyhood’ or ‘expecting’…let me
know!
Introducing the first part of this series…second part to
follow…because…I am a mom!!
Top Ten Things to Know: When You’re Expecting or a New Mommy –PART I
1. Breast
Feeding-if you plan on doing it, don’t let anyone discourage you. It takes a while to get used to, but keep
trying if that’s what you want. Lansinoh Lanolin can make the whole experience
“pain free”. Make sure you pack in your
hospital bag.
2. Time-Everything
takes about 3 days to work. If you want
to try a new brand of formula, diapers, etc…do some research on the Internet,
consult your pediatrician, or talk to a trusted friend/family member. Just know results take time in anything you
do.
3. Thick
skin-what you will definitely need to develop to help deal with all of the
people-familiar and strangers-who will give their opinions without being
asked. When I was in my eighth month of
pregnancy, a lady stopped me in a shopping center to tell me that I looked like
I was due at any moment or expecting multiples.
4. Obligation-Don’t
feel the need to try everything family/people suggest you do. Plain and
simple.
5. Routines-Shape
your little one into who you want them to be.
It is possible to sleep train a baby from three months old. It takes time and patience. Samantha has been going to sleep by 8 PM since
she was three and half months old…and she remains peaceful throughout the
night. There are some sacrifices you will
have to make to ensure your baby can be in an environment that doesn’t disturb
the sleep pattern, but it’s worth it!

What Inspires You?
About a year ago, I decided to pursue my passion for writing. Last summer, I began my memoir...or at least that was my intention...during the leadership program I am a part of. Classes ended with the promise to keep the thoughts and pen flowing.
But fast forward six months later-I have not made significant progress with my story-besides a collection of poems I've created. I often talk to a couple of friends about this block that I've had. I'm not sure if it's a time issue because sometimes I have too much of it on my hands.
The realization hit, that in order for me to be productive, some 'thing' must happen in my life! Well, that 'thing' sure has. I am currently 5 months pregnant and lovin' it ;-)!! My wonderful little joy inside of me has been the motivation I desperately needed to continue my writing journey.
Events-miraculous and devastating-inspire me to accomplish my goals...so my friends, what inspires you?
